History
Alternatives, a Day Program for adults with developmental disabilities, was established by a group of concerned parents in 1998. They dreamed of a place where people with disabilities could participate in meaningful activities designed to promote self-care skills and active participation within the community. The goal was and remains for all people with disabilities to work with and for their communities, through vocational, recreation and volunteer opportunities.
Through the years Alternatives has grown from a home-based program to a respected model of success within the community. Alternatives has helped many people with developmental disabilities from both York Region and Toronto to achieve their personal goals for success.
The program is a shining example of what is possible when proactive parents and a caring community come together.
